Today we watched a TED Talk by Sebastian Junger. He was a veteran who struggled with short term Post Traumatic Stress Disorder after he came back from the war to his home in New York. I loved hearing his story because I have never experienced anything like what he was describing. I thought it was interesting when he said someone can have PTSD without experiencing trauma.
Why do military personnel who have not seen combat experience post-traumatic stress disorder at such high levels?
-It is not about what you see, it is what you feel when you come back and feel alienated.
Why does living in a civilized society lead to higher rates of depression and suicide?
- no one understands what the people with PTSD are going through
