In Science, we have been learning about immunization. This topic was very interesting because we hear so many bad claims about vaccines that we were able to determine if these claims were true or not. We learned about the immune system, blood, and vaccines. We did one lab this unit called the Blood Lab. In this lab, we learned about antigens on red blood cells. After reading the background and the procedures of the lab, we performed the lab where we tested a team member’s blood and looked for clumping which determined her blood type. Because I have been so sick for the past 3 months, I was able to relate to it very well.
In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, we went back to the depression era in Maycomb, Alabama. This book contrasted the two worlds of back then and now. Between learning how to manage social media and technology to reading about a simple lifestyle with no technology shows the development of technology within the past 100 years. Throughout this novel, I took sketchnotes on Google Drawing. I like to annotate through this visual representation of the novel.
Our entire final project revolved around social media and technology from the websites we built to the videos we made. I loved being able to use my creativity with this project in building my website. I made it through Wix.com and I was able to customize any part I liked. For one of my videos, I experimented with GoAnimate to create an informational animated video. I loved working on this video because it was as if I was telling a story which I then got to bring to life. I chose to make a flipped classroom video similar to the videos we watch in core for my second video!
This past year in NEW School has taught me that I can find new ways to get work done that excite me and make me eager to do the work. I will miss the free-flow environment of the core as I move on to the Pre-Med core. I will always remember the valuable things I learned that I can take will me to be successful in life.
